LATIN VIA FABLES: AESOPUS

Aesop's Fables... in Latin!

I am looking forward to starting the new school year. I will be using "Latin is Fun" book 2 with my 13 y/o son and 11 y/o daughter. It worked well for them last year. They were able to work through it pretty much by themselves last year and on Fridays we would go over the chapter and work on things that were a problem.

I really am a fan of Dr. Traupman. He and Oerberg rock. They are in the Latin pan(demi)theon along with Laura Gibbs, Rose Williams and the others.

Thanks so much for your note, Neill! The Internet really is amazing: when I was a graduate student, I hoarded big piles of Latin stuff in notebooks... but now we can share stuff online for free - it really is a different world, especially for people working in these more eccentric fields of endeavor, such as Latin. Last night I was working some more on that amazing little book of rhyming Leonine Latin sayings that I found at GoogleBooks... and which I surely never would have heard of without the goodness of GoogleBooks. It really is a wonderful time to be exploring Latin delights online. :-)

Hi Laura. So far, so good. It always seems like each semester is a big fly wheel. It takes some effort to get it started and then once it's spinning it runs pretty well. I'm doing some review for Clayton and Caroline, before we begin book 2. But, my youngest child Austin has amazed me with his desire to do Latin. He is 8 and will be 9 in November. He has been peppering me with notices like, "Dad, we didn't do Latin yet.""Dad, can I do the Latin games on the computer?" "Dad, we need to read the story about Medusa." "Dad, I think I'm ready to start Greek this year." Sounds crazy doesn't it? I just hope that I can continue to feed and nurture that fire of enthusiasm.

Thankfully, I have friends like you who are doing so much to make Latin fun and comprehensible. I don't know how you do it Laura, but God bless you. I am in awe of your talents and skill with web based tools. This Ning thing is just one example. I would not have even known about such a thing had I not been in touch with you. Fantastic! As they say, "You go, girl."

Hi Neill! How is your new semester going??? We just finished our third week at the University of Oklahoma, and now that I've finally got those classes humming along smoothly, I hope to be getting back into some more Latin projects again, whoo-hoo! :-)
