As I watched the University of Oklahoma go down to defeat in football last night (my students will all be in mourning...), I pulled together some flashcard vocabulary sets for fables 1-14. You can see them all
listed on the Quia Resources page.
I am a BIG BELIEVER in flashcards, and always used the small blank cards from
Vis-Ed cards - just $7 per 1000 cards! So the idea with the online flashcards is not so much to use them as flashcards... but to use them for the handy "list of terms" and also the GAMES that Quia automatically creates for each flashcard set.
Matching Game: The matching game is great when you are first starting to learn a set of words. It presents a set of cards in two different colors, one color for each language, and you match the word and its definition, until you have "turned over" all the cards. I really like how Quia randomly uses different colors and different arrangements so that you don't develop a kind of lazy eye while working on the vocabulary.
Concentration Game: The concentration game is fun just as a game, totally aside from the vocabulary. It's like the matching game, except that this time the cards are upside down and you can only see two of them at a time. Even if you know the vocabulary perfectly, a concentration game is always a challenge. In this game, there is also a "Settings" button where you can change the size of the board. By default, it is set at 4x4, but if that is too hard (or too easy), you can change the size of the board.
I'll post some more detailed tips on using the Quia games later on - but if you give them a try, I think you'll see that they are straightforward to use, and a lot of fun.
